I was talking to a close friend of mine the other day. She was telling me that she was almost ready to start on her latest venture, but not quite there yet. She needed to do more research.
I knew she’d been researching for months, and I asked her, “What are you missing right now that makes it so you can’t move forward?”
She said, “Nothing, I guess.”
Notice the reluctance. She got called out – however kindly – and realized she’s been putting unnecessary “research” in the way of her DOING.
I’ve also seen it within the internet marketing world. Somone will be waiting for a particular course to come out before they move forward. They believe that is the “missing link” and if they only wait a leeeettle longer, they’ll have all the information they need to move forward.
Problem is, there’s always more information to consume, always more Tweets to follow, courses to buy, feeds to read and emails to sort. We’ll never get to the doing.
(I think our brains secretly know that’s the case, and we trick ourselves into the “research” excuse because we’re afraid of failing when we finally get down to doing.)
What’s your current project?
What are you missing before you can move forward?
Most likely the answer is “Nothing, I guess…” So start DOING!
If it’s not, and you have a concrete “something” that you’re missing, then go get it!
